Biogenic Nanoselenium Particles Effectively Attenuate Oxidative Stress-Induced Intestinal Epithelial Barrier Injury by Activating the Nrf2 Antioxidant Pathway

Abstract: In the present study, a new form of selenium nanoparticle (biogenic nanoselenium (BNS) particles) was synthesized using bacteria. The protection of BNS particles against oxidative stress-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction and the inherent mechanisms of this process were investigated, and selenomethionine (SeMet) and chemically synthesized nanoselenium (Nano-Se) particles were used for comparison. Characterization of BNS particles revealed that they were monodispersed and homogeneous spheres, with an averag… Show more

“…[51][52][53] In the present study, the histological analysis showed an increase in ileal and colonic submucosal infiltration 5 days after mice were treated with ETEC K88. [58][59][60][61] Our results are consistent with previous studies showing that ETEC can colonize epithelial cells to disrupt the intestinal absorption system and cause chronic malnutrition. Consistent with the present study, previous studies have found that other AMPs supplemented by diet as well as MccJ25 and sublancin significantly improved the nutrient digestibility of weaning pigs and the villus morphology of broilers, respectively.…”

“…The transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) was determined every other day using the epithelial voltohmmeter (EVOM 2 ; World Precision Instruments, Sarasota, FL, USA). When TEER was stable at ;4000 V cm 2 , the IPEC-J2 cells reached the confluence of monolayer, which is consistent with previous studies (26,27). NPA (1 mM) solution was added into the medium of IPEC-J2 monolayer cells along with L. frumenti for 4 h. After treatment, the TEER of IPEC-J2 monolayer cells was measured by the epithelial voltohmmeter.…”

“…40,41 In the present study, our data showed that ETEC K88 challenge significantly increased the gene abundance and concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α in jejunum of piglets and IPEC-J2 cells. 45,46 Our data clearly showed that ETEC K88 challenge expression of p38 in IPEC-J2 cells. Oxidative stress is a very important mechanism in many potential mechanisms by which toxic substances affect mammalian cells.…”
