Biogenic Nano-CuO-Catalyzed Facile C–N Cross-Coupling Reactions: Scope and Mechanism

Abstract: We demonstrate here a green and efficient biogenic synthesis of copper(II) oxide nanoparticles using easily available Ocimum Sanctum leaf extract at room temperature. The biogenic copper oxide nanoparticles have shown excellent activity on N-arylation of cyclic and acyclic amides with aryl and styryl halides. Broad substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, and high yields were observed. This protocol is also extended for the N-arylation of substituted aryl amines and nitrogen heterocycles includi… Show more

“…These high-frequency modes of A u and B u can be assigned to the Cu–O stretching vibration along the [1 0 1] direction [ 38 ]. An intense broad band appeared in the 3200–3550 cm −1 region that was attributed to the O–H stretching vibration of surface hydroxyl groups of adsorbed water molecules [ 39 ], which arises because nanocrystalline materials having a high surface-to-volume ratio absorbs high moisture. The small band at approximately 2371 cm −1 is due to O=C=O stretching vibration.…”

“…Compound 5 was prepared following our previously reported methodology. 86 A mixture of carbazole (1 mmol), 1,4-diiodo benzene (1 mmol), NaOH (1.2 mmol) and biogenic CuO NPs in DMF was heated at 120 °C for 15 h. Then, after cooling, the reaction mixture was taken in ice cold water and extracted using ethyl acetate (3 × 10 mL). The organic part was separated, collected and washed with brine, dried over Na 2 SO 4 (anhy.…”

“…Consequently, these bands validate which high humidity is absorbed by the nanocrystalline system with high surface-to-volume ratio [27]. (ii) The stretching vibration of O=C=O resulted in an IR band observed at 2352 cm −1 [28]. During KBr palletization, the adsorption of CO 2 from the air on the surface of the as-synthesized material resulted in the presence of an IR band at 1411 cm −1 [28].…”
