Biogenesis, functions and clinical significance of circRNAs in gastric cancer

Abstract: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumours in the world and has high morbidity and mortality. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs with covalently linked circular structures. In recent years, plentiful circRNAs have been discovered that participate in many biological processes, including the initiation and development of tumours. Increasing evidences suggest important biological functions of circRNAs, implying that circRNAs may serve as vital new biomarkers and targets f… Show more

“…These data suggested that circRNA_100269 could inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasion while inducing the cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of GC cells by suppressing PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. In consistence with our ndings, recent studies also reported circRNAs including circNHSL1 and circNF1 could be novel gene regulators in GC, which can affect tumor progression through various signaling pathways (22)(23)(24)(25)(26)(27). Taken all together, our results revealed the essential roles of circRNA_100269/PI3K/Akt signaling on the modulation of GC progression.…”

“…GC is a public problem with high incidence and mortality [21]. CircRNAs have the critical clinical significance in GC [22]. The former work suggested that down-regulation of hsa_circ_0003159 had the potential clinical value in GC [10].…”

“…However, CDR1as also functions in non-brain tissues, such as in islet and HCC cells, where it targets miR-7 expression (Xu et al, 2015;Yu et al, 2016), and in bladder cancer tissues where it sponges miR-135a (Li P. et al, 2018). With development of the ceRNA hypothesis, additional circRNAs have been discovered to act as miRNA sponges in cells (Zheng et al, 2016;Shan et al, 2019;Wang et al, 2019).…”
