Biogenesis and function of macrocyclic spermine alkaloids

Abstract: The results of the recent studies on the biogenesis of the macrobicyclic spermine alkaloid aphelandrine are reviewed. The possible role of aphelandrine and its precursors prelandrine and dihydroxyverbacine in the cell metal ion homeostasis (uptake, turnover and transport of metal ions) is discussed.
