Biogas: A renewable source of energy

Abstract: First part of the paper deals with biogas produced in the process of anaerobic digestion. Possibilities of biogas utilization are commented briefly. Laboratory fermentation unit that was built at the Institute of Process and Environmental Engineering is described further on. The laboratory fermentation unit is used for digestion of new types of substrate and for process optimization. Finally, the biogas plant built in Sweden is described. Biogas produced there is treated and used as a fuel for public transport… Show more

“…The potential of anaerobic digestion to produce biogas is presented by Houdková [17] -authors present biogas production in laboratory and next comment potential of biogas utilization and in biogas production for vehicles. Matuszewska et al [18] evaluated the biological methane potential of various feedstock for the production of biogas to supply engines in agricultural tractors.…”

“…They established that the top of sugar-beet doping causes higher hydrogen-sulphide content in biogas and that increasing the ratio of additives causes a decrease methane productivity. Houdková et al built a laboratory fermentation unit for the experimental determination of biogas production [9]. Kalyuzhnyi et al [10] studied the integrated mechanical, biological and physical-chemical treatment of liquid pig manure.…”

“…This is motivated by technological developments and of course an increase in the number of human populations, however, the large level of energy consumption is not matched by the amount of supply of energy sources that will eventually run out. Therefore an alternative energy source is needed as a substitute for non-renewable energy sources [1][2][3].…”
