Biofertilizers as Strategies to Improve Photosynthetic Apparatus, Growth, and Drought Stress Tolerance in the Date Palm

Abstract: in comparison with controls under severe water stress conditions. We summarize the extent to which the dual and multiple combinations of microorganisms can overcome challenges related to drought by enhancing plant physiological responses.

“…The data confirmed that the stimulation of plant growth is not always related to the degree of AMF root colonization, as previously reported by Cavagnaro et al [46]. Earlier studies showed that the dual application of compost and AMF could have positive [13] or negative [3] effects on the levels of AMF root colonization. However, the mechanisms that underpin these effects remain to be elucidated [46].…”

“…In addition, the RhOL1 strain has the ability to produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), which might induce the modulation of the root architecture [59]. At the same time, AMF and compost have been shown to contribute to the stability of soil aggregates resulting in soil physicochemical and biological properties improvement, and hence a better root growth and nutrition [13,60]. Reports discussing the combined effect of AMF, rhizobia, and/or compost are very scanty, and it is worth noting that tripartite combination treatment mitigated the negative salinity impact more than their individual treatment.…”

“…; N, P and K% in the herb are presented in Table (9), in the present investigation, application of PGPR under irrigation rate of 1200 m 3 gave the highest effect on N, P and K% in rosemary plant in the 1 st and 2 nd cuts as well, using of biological fertilizer improved nutrient uptake and growth of rosemary under water stress. Our results suggest that the application of inoculation with AMF and PGPR could improve the defense against drought stress with overall produces positive outcomes of plant production mainly owing to the several nutrition-related benefits that this class of soil beneficial microbes can provide to their host-plants (Anli et al, 2020).…”

“…Therefore, this study plays a vital role in increasing the efficiency of the use of nutrients. Previous research that reported the use of PGPR as biological fertilizer can be a biological control that can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers in crop production (Anli et al, 2020;Atieno et al, 2020). At this time, the use of intensive chemical fertilizers is one of the challenges in agriculture, reducing the application of nitrogen fertilizers without losing their performance (Bordoloi et al, 2019).…”
