We recorded the vector magnetogastrogram (MGG) due to gastric electrical activity (GEA) in normal rabbits using a Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID) magnetometer and measured the degree of correlation of the MGG with 24 channels of serosal electrodes. The vector magnetometer allows us to non-invasively record three orthogonal magnetic field components and project the recorded magnetic field vector into arbitrary directions. We optimized the magnetic field vector direction to obtain the highest possible correlation with each serosal electrode recording. We performed a vagotomy and examined spatial and temporal changes in the serosal potential and in the transabdominal magnetic field. We obtained spatial information by mapping the recorded signals to the electrode positions in the gastric musculature. Temporal evidence of uncoupling was observed in spectral analyses of both serosal electrode and SQUID magnetometer recordings. We conclude that non-invasive recordings of the vector magnetogastrogram reflect underlying serosal potentials as well as pathophysiological changes following vagotomy.

In the past decade, researchers working on fractional-order systems modeling and control have been considering working on the design and development of analog and digital fractional-order differentiators, i.e. circuits that can perform non-integer-order differentiation. It has been one of the major research areas under such field due to proven advantages over its integer-order counterparts. In particular, traditional integer-order proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers seem to be outperformed by fractional-order PID (FOPID or PI λ D μ ) controllers. Many researches have emerged presenting the possibility of designing analog and digital fractional-order differentiators, but only restricted to a fixed order. In this paper, we present the conceptual design of a variable fractional-order differentiator in which the order can be selected from 0 to 1 with an increment of 0.05. The analog conceptual design utilizes operational amplifiers and resistor-capacitor ladders as main components, while a generic microcontroller is introduced for switching purposes. Simulation results through Matlab and LTSpiceIV show that the designed resistor-capacitor ladders can perform as analog fractional-order differentiation.

Blind Source Separation (BSS) now raises great interest. In fact, BSS plays an important role in many diverse application areas, including medical diagnosis (separation of electroencephalogram signals for instance).Consequently, the BSS problem is addressed in this paper through i) the description of mathematical tools, ii) the bibliographical survey of classical methods and biomedical applications, and iii) the detailed presentation of six BSS algorithms.
