“…It is considered a native fish of the Amazon basin with occurrences in several countries in South America, such as Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela (Castro-Ruiz et al, 2021;Owolabi, 2021). This species exhibits reproductive seasonality, migratory behavior, external fertilization, and total spawning in river channels during rising water season, with no parental care; their eggs are free floating and are yellowish with rapid embryogenesis (Deza-Taboada et al, 2006;Intúrias, 2008).…”

“…It is considered a native fish of the Amazon basin with occurrences in several countries in South America, such as Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela (Castro‐Ruiz et al, 2021; Owolabi, 2021). These reproductive characteristics of P. punctifer allow for a high abundance of its larvae drifting in the Amazonian river systems toward nursery and growth habitats, coinciding with periods of higher rainfall and an increase in the regional hydrological level (Cajado et al, 2020; Chaves et al, 2017; Zacardi et al, 2017).…”
