Biodiversity and species status of the fish in Domas coastal waters of Banten Bay, Indonesia

Abstract: The potential for coastal fisheries in Indonesia is very high, one of the many beaches with a diverse population of fish species is Domas Beach in the eastern part of Banten Bay. The survey was conducted from August to December 2021. The purpose of this study was to determine the biodiversity and species status of the fish in Domas Beach, Banten. Gill nets (sizes of 1 inch, 1.5 inch), cast net, hand-line, beach seine, and mini trawler were used in this study. The results of this study was recorded 105 species … Show more

“…This underscores the species' remarkable genetic diversity, attributed to its adaptable nature, unpredictable movements, and ability to cope with environmental dynamics (Fauvelot and Borsa 2011;Habib and Sulaiman 2016). These genetic diversity results were also in line with the high number of haplotypes in Scoberous commerson and Caranx sexfasciatus; this was confirmed by Akbar et al (2014) and Wahyudewantoro et al (2023) that the number of diverse haplotypes influenced the genetic diversity in a population where the more diverse the haplotype types, the higher the genetic diversity of the population. In addition, the diversity of haplotypes shows that the species has good adaptability to environmental changes (Asril et al 2022).…”

“…The source of pollution in the Domas coastal waters is thought to originate from domestic waste that flows into the river and then enters the waters. Domas coastal waters are flanked by two rivers: the Ciujung Lama River and the Ci Anyer River (Wahyudewantoro et al 2023). Most of the pollution sources in the sea come from land, which drains through rivers (Darmawan & Masduqi 2014).…”

“…Policymakers can review the suggestions outlined in our study to make future decisions to encourage increased seafood exports to the markets of OIC countries, especially with the continued growth of the global halal food market. Moreover, this study is part of our efforts to encourage a greater contribution of the fisheries sector to Indonesia’s GDP by identifying the factors that drive seafood exports, which so far have only been around 2%–3% and have never reached more than 4% in the past two decades, while Indonesia is blessed with extraordinary marine biodiversity (Wahyudewantoro et al , 2023; Kaligis et al , 2018).…”
