Biodiesel Production on Monometallic Pt, Pd, Ru, and Ag Catalysts Supported on Natural Zeolite

Abstract: Biodiesel production from rapeseed oil and methanol via transesterification reaction facilitated by various monometallic catalyst supported on natural zeolite (NZ) was investigated. The physicochemical characteristics of the synthesized catalysts were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method (BET), temperature-programmed-reduction in hydrogen (H2-TPR), temperature-programmed-desorption of ammonia (NH3-TPD), Scanning Electron Microscope equipped with EDX detector (SEM-EDS), and X-ray ph… Show more

“…The catalytic characteristics of heterogeneous catalysts are inextricably linked to the number as well as intensity of energetic centers present over the surface [47] . The quantity of metallic salts loaded has a massive influence on the density of approachable energetic centers on surface of solid catalyst, and consequently on the performance of catalyst.…”

“…Figure 1 presents the influence of the carrier material treatment on the phase composition. As we can easily see from the diffraction curves recorded for the investigated materials, the natural zeolite structure contains calcite, mordenite, clinoptilolite (zeolite) and quartz [ 9 ]. The obtained diffraction curve for NZ with the identified crystal structures is presented in Figure 1 .…”

“…In addition, the increase in greenhouse gas emissions caused by fossil fuel combustion causes significant environmental pollution [4]. All of this demonstrates the urgent need to search for new, sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil fuels [3,[5][6][7][8][9][10]. One of the main alternative fuels is biodiesel.…”

“…Furthermore, biodiesel can be blended in any proportion with conventional petroleum-based diesel [7]. Biodiesel is considered an environmentally friendly, clean, renewable and sustainable fuel [8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. The combustion of biodiesel produces lower emissions of gaseous pollutants (i.e., SOx, NOx, CO and HC) as well as particulate matter or soot compared to conventional diesel fuel [15].…”
