Biodiesel production from Lipidium sativum L.seed oil by alkali-catalyzed transesterification with different alcohols: Evaluation and analysis of biodiesels

Abstract: This study reports the exploitation of Garden cress Lepidium sativum L. seed as a novel non-edible raw feedstock for producing high yield and quality biodiesels vial the optimized alcoholysis reaction. The satisfactory oil content of the Garden cress seeds (28.50± 1.50 % w/w) encouraged its utilization for biodiesel (BD) creation. The garden cress seed oil (GCSO) was transesterified with ethanol and a blend of methanol and ethanol via optimized alkali-catalyzed alcoholysis reaction. The typical reaction condit… Show more

“…Figure g,h displays the distribution of functional groups on the surface of feedstock and the activated carbons. The stretching vibrations of −OH (∼3690–3275 cm –1 ), C–H (∼3035 cm –1 ), −CH 2 (∼2924 cm –1 ), CC (∼1546 cm –1 ), CO (∼1660 cm –1 ), C–O–C (∼1039–1150 cm –1 ), and Ar–H (∼865–466 cm –1 ) were observed . FS contained prominent absorption of CO, which arose from the stretching vibration of amide I band of collagen, while absorption of C–N and…”

“…The broad peak at 22−30°and 40−44°could be attributed to the crystal carbon planes (002) and (100), respectively. 42 Amorphous carbon structure was obtained from all of the activated carbon. However, such diffraction peaks were very weak due to the low carbon content and low degree of aromatization in the activated carbon.…”

“…In addition, garden cress seeds are rich in two primary, non‐essential amino acids: glutamic acid and aspartic acid. The oilseed analysis showed that aspartic acid (9.76 ± 0.03%) and glutamic acid (19.33 ± 0.19%) were the most abundant amino acids in garden cress seeds (Abdel‐Aty, Bassuiny, et al., 2019 ; Abdel‐Aty, Salama, et al., 2019 ; Sedeeq et al., 2021 ).…”
