Biodegradation of P-nitro phenol using a novel bacterium Achromobacter denitrifacians isolated from industrial effluent water

Abstract: In the present investigation, Achromobacter denitrifacians was isolated from industrial wastewater and used in the degradation of para nitro-phenol. Experiments were made as a function of different carbon sources, organic and inorganic nitrogen sources and metal ions to analyse the removal efficiency of para nitro-phenol present in the industrial wastewater sources. Observations revealed that the rate of phenol biodegradation was significantly affected by pH, temperature of incubation, glucose, peptone and met… Show more

“…Even though the distribution system in Indian cities take maximum pressure head of hardly 8-15m [11] , Clause 4.13.1 of SP:35(S&T)-1987 [13] suggests pressure head between 3m and 10m for domestic meters. The study area mostly comprises of single storey building the minimum head adopted is 6m.…”

“…More or less there is no identification of any by-product phases, indicating that there is no other elements were present in compound and result in the formation of requiredcarbon phase only [30]. The intensity of peak around 31° with diffraction peaks (002) and at 38° diffraction peaks (311) plane was considered as the predominant peaks for carbon phase [28].…”

“…The HRTEM image displayed in Figure . 6a and 6d confirmsthe particle distributionand the crystalline variations in the car powder was found to be around 27 nm and are comparablewith the values calculated from diffraction results, evidencing the development of carbon particles processed through chemical route. The d-spacing values of bot shown in Figure 6c and 6f corresponds to the (002) and (311) plane of activated carbon respectively [17,28].…”

“…The important natural ingredient charcoal is considered as black light-weight residue comprising of carbon and other some ash contents collected by the removal of unwanted water and the volatile components. Charcoal in the purified form (activated charcoal) is applied for a varied aspects of medical purposes (7,12,13).…”

“…Waste water treatment is a process used to purify wastewater by removing the contaminants either from the domestic areas or from the different chemical processing industries so as to useful in different categories in the overall environment (6,(11)(12)(13). The present study is about the wastewater treatment. This treatment involves removing the contaminants of waste water with the help of natural sources. For this purpose, thenatural source materials like gravel, sand -red soil and charcoal are selected, purified and arranged as filterbeds through which the water to be treated is passed.…”
