Biodegradable Polyurethane Solid‐Solid Phase Change Materials

Abstract: Polyurethane based phase change material (PCM) was prepared using polyethylene glycol (PEG), isophoronediisocyanate and octadecanol via a two-step process. PEG and octadecanol served as phase change components. The structural characterization of PCM was performed by ATR-FTIR and 1 H-NMR spectroscopies. The latent heat, phase change temperature and thermal stability of PCM were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The results show that PCM has an excellent energy st… Show more

“…S2). [55,[60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67] In addition, the heat-energy storage ability of 20EG composite PCMs was explored by performing 100 heating-cooling cycles in the range of 5-80 °C (Fig 2c). No appreciable difference in energy storage capacity, phase change temperature, and characteristic peaks position in FTIR spectra after 100 cycles (Fig.…”

“…The common approaches to addressing the rigidity problem of PCMs include blending exible polymer matrix with PCMs [54], con nement PCMs into exible porous scaffolds [49], and developing solid-solid polyurethane-based PCMs by chemical crosslinking copolymerization [55]. Among these methods, blending exible polymer matrix with PCMs method is low cost and eco-friendly, and is easy to adopt by the industrial community.…”

“…The cyclohexyl proton of IPDI was between δ 0.90 and 1.60 ppm. The chemical shift at δ 8.07 ppm was observed for (-C = O)NH proton [32]. The peak appearing at δ 4.1 ~ 4.3ppm could be attributed to methylene protons next to oxygen and nitrogen of urethane linkage.…”

“…Oktay and Kayaman‐Apohan (2021) prepared polyethylene glycol (PEG)/octadecanoyl polyurethane which served as PCM, and it can improve the heat storage capacity of many polymeric materials. Therefore, the prepared bio‐based PCMs have considerable potential applications such as temperature control, smart textile, and smart heat storage systems.…”
