“…In addition, readily decomposable organic carbon sources were both C and N substrates for nitrification (Zhou et al 2019). Biochar amendment reduced soil N effectiveness for N 2 O production and promoted the further reduction of N 2 O to N 2 in denitrification with increased electron transfer (Xu et al 2022). However, biochar amendment increased nitrification associated N 2 O emissions 2-3 years after fertilization, which is consistent with findings by Edwards et al (2018), but reduced cumulative N 2 O emissions compared with the SN throughout the 5 years experimental period (Table 1).…”

“…crop straw, manure and solid waste) under oxygenlimited or anaerobic conditions (Harter et al 2016;Osman et al 2020). Recently, biochar has been extensively studied to determine its ability to enhance nutrient availability in soils (Zhang et al 2020a, b), promote crop growth (Steinbeiss et al 2009) and reduce Nr losses (Duan et al 2018;Xu et al 2022). Biochar could increase the pH and permeability of the soil (Abel et al 2013), ease biological and abiotic stresses, and improve microbial activity and biodiversity (Azeem et al 2020).…”

“…Soil NO 3 À -N and NH 4 + -N in the test soil samples were quantified using the Discrete Auto Analyzer (SmartChem, Brookfield, USA), respectively. Soil-dissolved carbon (DOC) contents were measured using the Carbon Elementar (VarioTOC, Elementar, Germany) (Xu et al, 2022). Soil AP contents were measured by the Discrete Auto Analyzer after extracting with 0.5 mol L À1 sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO 3 ) and filtering.…”

“…The intensity of GHGs has substantially increased in recent time, which has in turn increased climate change and global warming [ 311 , 312 , 313 , 314 , 315 , 316 ]. Globally, various policies, measures and strategies are being deployed by governments to limit GHGs emissions.…”
