“…They have also been suggested as novel candidate drugs for AD [29]. As one of the phytoestrogen compounds, biochanin A, has been shown to have an important effect in cancer protection [21,22]. However, there is still much to learn about this phytoestrogen and its beneficial effects on human health.…”

“…Its chemical structure resembles that of endogenous estrogen, which is able to displays agonistic and antagonistic interactions with the estrogen receptor. Over the past few years, biochanin A has been applied in research on cancer prophylaxis and neuroprotection studies [20][21][22][23]. Despite the many considerable efforts to study the beneficial effects of biochanin A, there remains a significant lack of understanding of the effects of this compound on the central nervous system.…”

“…Secondly, BCA has various other biological activities, such as anti proliferative, anti inflammatory -- (Kole et al, 2011), protection of dopaminergic neurons (Chen et al, 2007), stimulation of osteoblastic differentiation, (Lee and Choi, 2005) and inhibition of melanogenesis (Lin et al, 2011). Especially to deserve to be mentioned, data from the animals and the in vitro studies provided that Biochanin A, which are possible through the path of inhabiting the enzyme activity and inducting apoptosis, can reverse, inhabit, or prevent cancers or tumor development, such as prostate cancer (Szliszka et al, 2013), breast cancer (Moon et al, 2008), lung tumor (Lee et al, 1991) and liver cancer (Mansoor et al, 2011).…”

“…BCA is proposed to reverse, inhibit, or prevent several types of tumors possibly through the inhibition of several enzymatic activities as well as the induction of apoptosis (2,4,5). It has been shown to synergistically enhance the anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects of sorafenib (first line of treatment) in hepatocellular carcinoma cells (6).…”
