Bioanalysis Zone: DBS Survey Results

Abstract: Bioanalysis Zone carried out a survey to evaluate the use of and attitudes to DBS analysis among our readership in the bioanalytical community. DBS analysis has generated a huge amount of interest in recent years. We wanted to take a snapshot of the field and determine whether a consensus is emerging on the future of DBS. We asked you for your honest opinions and you delivered! You can view the full results at www.bioanalysis-zone.com. We have a selection of short opinion articles below, giving a range of view… Show more

“…Furthermore, in many developing countries, resources of storage and dispatch for low temperature conditions are scarce. These advantages of DBS have been summarized [14] and also commented upon [15]. Key terms Stable isotope dilution: An internal standard that is the analyte but labelled with a stable isotope is used.…”

“…So it is rational to conduct clinical trials in a global perspective and to include many clinical sites in many countries. DBS methods, when they can be applied, really facilitate rational and inexpensive [15] sample handling and avoid whole blood centrifugation, deep-freezing and dispatch of few samples from several sites on dry ice.…”

“…To date, DBS has been used to support a wide diversity of studies including clinical and non-clinical PK studies to biomarkers during all phases of drug devel-opment (discovery, preclinical and clinical studies) [36]. However, the introduction and implementation of DBS sampling and analysis has been received with mixed reviews, partially due to the need for generation of additional data to support such a change by the pharmaceutical industry as well as the lack of formal 'acceptance' of the methodology by the regulatory agencies [23].…”

“…There have been a number of surveys on the use of microsampling for pharmaceutical drug development [13,[18][19][20]. The first comprehensive North American survey on the pharmaceutical industry use of microsampling was sponsored by the IQ Consortium Microsampling Group in early 2012, and the survey was conducted within its members.…”
