Bioactive furanocoumarins from the stems and leaves of Clausena hainanensis

Abstract: A new furanocoumarin, clauhainanin A (1), together with seven known furanocoumarins (2-8), were isolated from the stems and leaves of Clausena hainanensis. The structure of 1 was elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods and the known compounds were identified by comparisons with data reported in the literature. All known compounds (2-8) were isolated from C. hainanensis for the first time. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicities against five human cancer cell lines: HL-60, SMMC-7721… Show more

“…Two main plant families produce furanocoumarins: Rutaceae and Apiaceae. In the case of Clausena lenis and C. hainanensis , clauselenisin A and clauhainanin A were isolated for the first time, respectively, from stem and leaves by using liquid–liquid extraction and medium‐pressure liquid chromatography . Continuing with Rutaceae, two furanocoumarins (chalepin and chalepensin) (Fig.…”

“…The presence of bioactive Cand O-prenylated pyrano-and furocoumarins is quite common within Clausena species (Ouyang et al 2016;Ma et al 2018b;Wongthet et al 2018) and was also reported for C. lenis (Liu et al 2018). In contrast, furoquinoline derivatives (8-11) seem to be an extraordinary feature of this species, since there has been only one report of such compounds within the genus Clausena (He et al 2003b).…”

“…is an abundant source of secondary metabolites, especially carbazole alkaloids, coumarins (furano and pyrano) and few lemonoids (Wu et al 1999;Ito et al 2000, Kumar et al 2012Liu et al 2018). Many pharmacologically active compounds isolated from Clausena species have been used for the treatment of human diseases such as cardiovascular disease, anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, anti-snake venom, anticancer, anti-HIV, and antiplatelet (Auranwiwat et al 2014;Arbab et al 2015;Chakthong et al 2016;Ma et al 2017). In addition, Clausena species has been found to possess anti-diabetic activity (Damsud et al 2017).…”
