Goal. To determine the species composition of weed plants and their dominant role, to establish the type and level of weediness of corn crops for grain grown in stationary crop rotation and monoculture in the conditions of the Eastern Forest Steppe of Ukraine. Methods. The research was carried out by route surveys of crops in field experiments. results. Аccording to the research data in 2011—2017 in corn sowing for grain found 33 types of weedy pollinators that belonged tо 17 families and contaminants were found in corn for grain crops, of which the most common were Asteraceae (9 species), Poaceae (4 species) and Polygonaceae (4 species). There were found 25% fewer species of weed plants (24 species) in corn for grain crops in monoculture than in crop rotation (32 species). Among weed plants, spring early and late species prevailed (65.6% — in crop rotation; 62.5% — in monoculture). The main types of weeds (occurrence of the species from 78 to 100%) in crop rotation were Setaria glauсa (L.) Beauv., Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Roem. et Schult., Chenopodium album L., Amaranthus retroflexus L, Solanum nigrum L., Polygonum lapathifolium L., Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop., Convolvulus arvensis L., and in monoculture — C. album, Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Xanthium strumarium L., C. arvense. According to the sum of the shares of dominance and subdominance among weed plants, C. arvense prevailed in crop rotation (78%), and X. strumarium prevailed in monoculture (100%). The type of weediness in corn for grain crops in crop rotation differed annually from the type of weediness in monoculture. For the most part, cereal annual weed species prevailed in crop rotation, and dicotyledonous weed species prevailed in monoculture. Under conditions of crop rotation, a lower level of weediness was observed almost every year than in monoculture. Conclusions. The type of weediness in crops of corn for grain in crop rotation differs from the type of weediness in monoculture. for the most part, cereal annual weed species predominate in crop rotation, and dicotyledonous weed species predominate in monoculture.

The research was conducted to determine the effect of new HPPD herbicides tembotrione, mesotrione, and topramezone on weed density, growth, and yield of maize. A field experiment was performed at the Agronomy farm of Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, India, during the kharif season of the year 2022, in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications and eight treatments of weed management including T1: Atrazine @1kg ha-1 PE, T2: Pyroxasulfone @127g ha-1 PE, T3: Pyroxasulfone @ 127g + Atrazine @ 1kg ha-1 PE (tank mixture), T4: Tembotrione @ 120g + Atrazine @ 1kg ha-1 + MSO Adjuvant at 20 DAS (Tank mixture), T5: Topramezone @ 25g + Atrazine @ 1kg ha-1 + MSO Adjuvant at 20 DAS (Tank mixture), T6: Mesotrione 2.27% w/w+ atrazine 22.7% w/w SC @ 3.5L ha- 1 at 20 DAS (Ready to use), T7: Control (Weedy check) and T8: Weed free. However, the application of PoE herbicide T5 reduced the weed density significantly compared to T3 but was statistically at par with T6 and T4. There was a significant effect of herbicides on reducing weed dry matter, T5 gave superior results compared to T3 and was statistically at par with T4 and T6. Among the PoE herbicide T5 was significantly higher compared to T3 and statistically at par with T4. Effect on yield and yield component, the number of grains per cob was significantly higher in T8 compared to T7.

A large quantity of maize is wasted due to weeds in Holeta and Ejere districts of Central Ethiopia. The weeds invade the crop fields during the early growth stage by germinating from the soil and driving nutrients from the soil. To manage the crop from the weeds, farmers exercise cultural weed control methods. However, this method of managing the weeds from the crop is tiresome and inefficient. Hence, it was assumed that application of the crops with herbicides soon after sowing or practicing weed free from emergence up to the time of maturity prevents the weeds. The study was to test the efficacy of herbicides on several weed species and increase maize production. The RCBD with three replications was used with plot dimensions every one calculating 5m x 4m. Plots were treated with AGENT 600 ml ha -1 , COYOTE 440 SE 3L.ha -1 , Primagramgold 3L.ha -1 , S-Maspor 960 EC 3L.ha -1 , Surestart 3L.ha -1 and weedy check. The application of S-Maspor 960 EC reduced the density of Corrigiola capensis by 93.3 %, Plantago lanceoleta by 51.6%, Spergula arvensis by 51.6% in Ejere tested location whereas treating plots with Surestart significantly decreased the remaining weed species in Holeta and Ejere. Furthermore, significantly increased cob length by 4.3%, grain yield by 17.58 folds, and reduced yield loss by 93.3% as compared to weedy check plots were also received from the application of Surestart. It is concluded that the application of Surestart 3L ha -1 has proven to significantly decrease weed density and enhanced grain yield.
