Binder-free TiO2 hydrophilic film covalently coated by microwave treatment

Abstract: A binder-free attachment method for TiO 2 on a substrate has been sought to retain high active photocatalysis. Here, we report a binder-free covalent coating of phase-selectively disordered TiO 2 on a hydroxylated silicon oxide (SiO 2 ) substrate through rapid microwave treatment. We found that Ti–O–Si and Ti–O–Ti bonds were formed through a condensation reaction between the hydroxyl groups of the disordered TiO 2 and S… Show more

“…To further boost the microbial pathogens inactivation performance of TiO 2 , we need to strengthen the producing amount of ROS species. In the authors’ group previous reports, BTO can generate a higher amount of ROS species under UV, visible or solar light illumination, which is represented by the higher peak intensity of BTO than pristine TiO 2 in electron paramagnetic resonance analysis [ 31 , 48 ]. Therefore, BTO could act as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent and outperform pristine TiO 2 by generating sufficient antibacterial and viricidal ROS at different band positions, as depicted in Fig.…”

“…2 f, the FT-IR spectrum of SnO 2 [O]rTiO 2 -PGN displays the transmittance peaks of Ti–O–C (795 cm −1 ), Ti–O–Sn (1030 cm −1 ), C=C of PGN (1560 and 1635 cm −1 ), which again evidence the essential chemical interconnections in SnO 2 [O]rTiO 2 -PGN composite. The detailed FT-IR vibration peak assignments are summarized in Table S3 using values from the literature 22 , 31 , 36 – 39 . Moreover, Raman data reveals the E g (151 and 621 cm −1 ), B 1g (395 cm −1 ) and A 1g (508 cm −1 ) bands of TiO 2 , D (1347 cm −1 ), G (1586 cm −1 ), and 2D (2600–3000 cm −1 ) bands of PGN, as shown in Fig.…”
