Bimetallic Oxide Nanosheets from Nickel–Vanadium Layered Double Hydroxide as an Efficient Cathode for Rechargeable Nickel–Zinc Batteries

Abstract: Nickel–zinc batteries as safe and economic energy storage devices suffer from lack of high electrochemical performance of cathode materials. Herein, a new cathode material for rechargeable Ni/Zn batteries is introduced based on various compositions of mixed metal oxide (MMO) through a calcination process of nickel–vanadium layered double hydroxide at different temperatures. The results demonstrated that the prepared sample at 500 °C presents the best electrochemical properties such as a good electrochemical di… Show more

“…The size and thickness of the particle of LDH materials affect their surface area that is necessary because it exposes more active sites because the higher surface area will result in higher catalytic activity . The decrease in the size or thickness of LDH crystals to a nanometer level results in reduction in the coordination number of metallic cations in the crystal of LDH that leads to variation in electronic properties and bandgap energies.…”

“…The next-generation rechargeable batteries, including multivalent ion batteries, metal-air batteries, and lithium-sulfur batteries, are attracted great attention in recent years due to their amazing advantages such as low price, natural abundance of components, shallow risk of safety, and non-toxic materials [48]. However, they include some challenges that are necessary to solve for commercial applications.…”
