Bimetallic Nanoparticles for Arsenic Detection

Abstract: Effective and sensitive monitoring of heavy metal ions, particularly arsenic, in drinking water is very important to risk management of public health. Arsenic is one of the most serious natural pollutants in soil and water in more than 70 countries in the world. The need for very sensitive sensors to detect ultralow amounts of arsenic has attracted great research interest. Here, bimetallic FePt, FeAu, FePd, and AuPt nanoparticles (NPs) are electrochemically deposited on the Si(100) substrate, and their electro… Show more

“…This may be done by changing the composition of the background solutions [48,77] and the measured signal (As 35); or by modifying the surface using M-NPs, their composites [37,51,58,[78][79][80], ligands (-SH, -NH 2 ) or organic membranes [11,38,40,44,49,56,80]. Other effective methods employ flowthrough systems [82] or cation exchangers [43,75,[83][84][85][86].…”

“…The metal nanoparticles play a key role in catalytic and electrocatalytic reactions which may empower numerous functionalities to line up for the targeted applications because of the interactivity of essential nanostructured sensor elements with their immediate local environments (Chen and Chatterjee 2013;Govindhan et al 2014, Huber et al 2015Maduraiveeran and Ramaraj 2009). Especially, gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) have found use in areas ranging from chemical separations and sensing to direct applications in the medical, food, and environmental community due to their unique chemical, optical, and electronic properties (Huber and Leopold 2016;Moghimi et al 2015;Wang et al 2015;Zhang et al 2017).…”

“…and heterogeneous catalysis [1][2][3][4][5][6]. These applications are often related to the Raman signal amplification of the adsorbed molecules by SERS (surface-enhanced Raman scattering) effect [7], due to the collective oscillations of free electrons on the nanostructured surface of noble metals excited by an incident radiation, known as localized surface plasmons.…”
