In view of the problems such as the basic properties, usage, and location of prefabricated concrete building components, which are easy to be omitted, missed, and difficult to query in the field management, this study introduces building information modeling (BIM) and radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies to visualize the state information of prefabricated concrete components, such as component type, manufacturer, location, and temperature. In the design stage, a new RFID family can be built in the actual model in order to solve the lack of definition of RFID family through the Industry Foundation Class (IFC) standard, and the databases of BIM and RFID can be connected with C# language, realizing the effective integration of the two engineering technologies. In the application stage, through the secondary development of Revit, the information connection between PC terminal and RFID equipment is completed, and the component data collected by RFID tags are transmitted to the BIM model to realize the integration and visualization of prefabricated component state information. In this study, the traceability of prefabricated components of prefabricated concrete buildings can be improved, providing a basis for quality responsibility tracking in the later period, reducing unnecessary waste of human and material resources and helping to maximize economic benefits.

Building energy performance tools are widely used to simulate the expected energy consumption of a given building during the operation phase of its life cycle. Deviations between predicted and actual energy consumptions have however been reported as a major limiting factor to the tools adopted in the literature. A significant reason highlighted as greatly influencing the difference in energy performance is related to the occupant behaviour of the building. To enhance the effectiveness of building energy performance tools, this study proposes a method which integrates Building Information Modelling (BIM) with artificial neural network model for limiting the deviation between predicted and actual energy consumption rates. Through training a deep neural network for predicting occupant behaviour that reflects the actual performance of the building under examination, accurate BIM representations are produced which are validated via energy simulations. The proposed method is applied to a realistic case study, which highlights significant improvements when contrasted with a static simulation that does not account for changes in occupant behaviour.

A Methodology for a Performance Information Model to Support Facility Management

Current facility management practice relies on different systems which require new technologies to integrate and manage information more easily. Building information modeling offers a good opportunity to improve facility information management by providing a unified platform for various data sources rather than an intuitive information interface. Although current research trends reveal that there is a continuously growing interest in facility management aided by building information modeling, an integrated model is still hard to obtain. This paper aims at developing a novel methodology based on building information modeling and facility management systems integration, underpinned by a performance information model. The implementation process of a performance information model is described, including information technologies involved, the data and process requirements, and the building performance assessment methods used. A first pilot case-study has been conducted with regards to surgery rooms in healthcare buildings. The proposal can support condition-based maintenance work schedule, as well as the achievement of organizational, environmental, and technical requirements. Among the practical implications found: Improved technological and environmental performances assessment; better visualization of building condition; improved decision-making process; facilitated maintenance tasks planning and maintenance records management.
