BIM-based augmented reality tool for the monitoring of construction performance and progress

Abstract: The construction industry is still lagging behind other industries in adopting new technologies for monitoring of performance and progress of construction works. In other industries like production or automotive such processes are already partly or fully automated. To improve effectiveness of construction scheduling and quality of works, this research proposes a BIMbased augmented reality application for site managers so-called AR4C. This application is combining Location-Based Management System and Building I… Show more

“…MR is the merging of real and virtual worlds to produce new environments and visualizations, where physical and digital objects coexist and interact in real time. Ratajczak et al [24] proposed a BIMbased AR. The application combined a location-based management system and BIM to visualize progress and performance of construction works by use of superimposition.…”

“…Zollmann (2014) developed an AR system that supports construction site progress monitoring and recording, but it relies on specific hardware. In AR4C system, exclude progress, KPI information is also showed (Ratajczak et al 2019).…”

“…Augmented Reality (AR) is the interaction between the artificial elements generated from digital devices and the real-life environment (Mitha et al 2013). Now, AR has already been used in progress monitoring (Ratajczak et al 2019) and defects detection (Lee et al 2012). However, existing technologies are still fragmented and require integration to perform efficiently in construction management.…”

“…It is also useful for generating and managing data such as geometry, spatial relationships, quantities, the properties of components, etc. during the life cycle of a building (Ratajczak et al, 2019). BIM also has the ability to transform how a building is designed and built and also to facilitate multi-disciplinary coordination, integration of 3D design, analysis, cost estimation, and construction scheduling (McArthur, 2015).…”
