Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been widely adopted in the building sector. However, it is still an emerging topic in road infrastructure projects despite its enormous potential to solve ongoing issues. While there have been several recent studies on BIM implementation in road projects, there is a lack of research analyzing the actual BIM Uses in road projects as reported in academic and technical documents. Considering this gap, this paper presents a systematic review of BIM Uses and complementary technologies to BIM in road infrastructure projects. The research method consisted of a systematic review composed of five stages: (1) question formulation, (2) searching of relevant documents, (3) document selection, (4) evidence collection, analysis, and synthesis, and (5) results report. A total of 384 documents were collected, from which 134 documents reporting BIM Uses on roads were analyzed. This study has two main contributions. First, 39 BIM Uses were identified, which are classified into nine categories: road design, traffic analysis, soil aspects, road safety, environmental issues, other engineering analysis, construction planning and analysis, cost analysis, and construction monitoring and control. Second, a set of 26 technologies complementary to BIM adoption in roads were identified, among the most prevalent of which are geographic information systems (GISs) and laser scanning. The results serve as a basis for researchers to learn about the status and propose future developments on BIM adoption in road infrastructure.

In-situ tests for predicting geotechnical parameters related to shear strength, such as California Bearing Ratio (CBR), typically require drilling boreholes and manual cone driving, which can be timeconsuming, expensive, and labor-intensive. The Dynamic Cone Penetrometer Test (DCPT) has emerged as a simpler, faster, and less expensive alternative for predicting CBR and other geotechnical parameters. This systematic review uses Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to examine relevant literature on DCP testing for accurately predicting CBR and other geotechnical parameters. After trimming 111 relevant studies to 55, the review discusses various research questions, including the correlation between DCP and CBR, factors such as water content and seasonal variations, and recent advances in DCP testing. The review emphasizes the importance of considering unsaturated soil behavior, such as soil suction, in pavement subgrade design to ensure the longevity and quality of the pavement. The findings provide compelling evidence for the utilization of DCP testing as an essential tool for predicting geotechnical parameters and designing high-performance pavements. By demonstrating the DCPT's remarkable convenience, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in CBR and geotechnical parameter prediction, this study paves the way for significant advancements in pavement design efficiency and economic viability.

Representation and modeling using the building information modeling (BIM) methodology of civil works have become the subject of increasing attention in recent years, thanks to the potential offered by Open Infrastructure BIM (I-BIM). However, the complexity of infrastructure works, i.e., the variety of construction and technological systems, makes Open I-BIM very complex and challenging. The lack of systemic knowledge on the subject is another challenging factor. The aim of the following research work is to provide a synoptic overview of the existing scientific research, accompanied by the most recent studies in the field of computer modeling, its applications, and the main opportunities that Open I-BIM offers to the infrastructure sector. After a thorough review of 198 scientific articles published between 2013 and 2023, this study systematically presents a holistic review and critical reflection on the current status of the use of Open BIM in the infrastructure sector, with a focus on the development of the tools and methods used. The outcome of this work constitutes a systematic review of the literature with a bibliometric analysis on Open I-BIM, which is able to provide a knowledge base for identifying research trends, common problems, and the potential of developed methods.
