Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) is a complete, wide and complex open standard data model to represent Building Information Models. Big efforts are being made by the standardization organization buildingSMART, to develop and maintain this standard in collaboration with researchers, companies and institutions. However, when trying to use IFC models from practice for automatic analysis, some issues emerge, as a consequence of a misalignment between what is prescribed by, or available in, the standard with the data sets that are produced in practice. In this study, a sample of models produced by practitioners for aims different from their explicit use within automatic processing tools is inspected and analyzed. The aim is to find common patterns in data set from practice and their possible discrepancies with the standard, in order to find ways to address such discrepancies in a next step. In particular, it is noticeable that the overall quality of the models requires specific additional care by the modellers before relying on them for automatic analysis, and a high level of variability is present concerning the storage of some relevant information (such as georeferencing).

Asset management is a "joined in" organisation activities to realise value from its controlled resource. Asset management evolved from simple maintenance, which was treated as a "necessary evil" in the 1970s, to the current position that is the core functions of organisational strategies. In Malaysia, the government is committed to enhancing asset management quality to ensure it is managed in a systematic, holistic, and sustainable manner; thus, policies and procedures regarding asset management have been issued since 1967. However, the Auditor-General Report found out that most government agencies are unable to manage their assets efficiently. This study focuses on analysing factors affecting asset management performance in government agencies in Malaysia. This study will look at the issues commonly raised by the Auditor-General Report, particularly on asset management, and identify the factors affecting asset management performance. The conceptual part consists of an extensive search and analysis of secondary sources of information through references and reviews of academic articles, Auditor-General's Report, news, and publications related to asset management. The literature review's analysed data indicate that three issues can be underlined: ineffective maintenance practice, misused and theft of government assets, and inadequate asset management knowledge. Accordingly, to clarify the factors leading to the said problems, a conceptual structure has been proposed based on previous studies. The identified factors leading to asset management issues in the public sector are maintenance practice, asset misappropriation, and training policy. This study has also analysed the gaps in past studies regarding asset management research. This concept paper provides a valuable addition to the current knowledge base, particularly on how factors affecting asset management performance in government agencies and hindering the government from delivering an efficient service to the public. The implications and recommendations for future research are also discussed.

Abstract. Modern cities will have a catalytic role in regulating global economic growth and development, highlighting their role as centers of economic activity. With urbanisation being a consequence of that, the built environment is pressured to withstand the rapid increase in demand of buildings as well as safe, resilient and sustainable transportation infrastructure. Transportation Infrastructure has a unique characteristic: it is interconnected and thus, it is essential for the stakeholders to be able to capture, analyse and visualise these interlinked relationships efficiently and effectively. This requirement is addressed by an Asset Information Management System (AIMS) which enables the capture of such information from the early stages of a transport infrastructure construction project. Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geographic Information Science/Systems (GIS) are two domains which facilitate the authoring, management and exchange of asset information by providing the location underpinning, both in the short term and through the very long lifespan of the infrastructure. These systems are not interoperable by nature, with extensive Extract/Transform/Load procedures required when developing an integrated location-based Asset Management system, with consequent loss of information. The purpose of this paper is to provide an insight regarding the information lifecycle during Design and Construction on a Highways Project, focusing on identifying the stages in which loss of information can impact decision-making during operational Asset Management: (i) 3D Model to IFC, (ii) IFC to AIM and (iii) IFC to 3DGIS for AIM. The discussion highlights the significance of custom property sets and classification systems to bridge the different data structures as well as the power of 3D in visualizing Asset Information, with future work focusing on the potential of early BIM-GIS integration for operational AM.
