Bilateral Pseudomucinous Cystadenoma of the Ovary: Report of a Case

Abstract

The following case report of bilateral pseudomucinous cystadenoma of the ovary is presented because of their unusually large size in the present day of modern surgery. The famous classical ovarian tumors of great size that were frequently described in the past were of this type. They grow very slowly and rarely develop carcinomatous degeneration. From an operative standpoint the pseudomucinous tumors are particularly favorable because the cysts usually lie free in the abdomen with an easily accessible pedicle, and adhesions to the intestine are not present unless the tumors are complicated by some inflammatory process. Preoperative and postoperative photographs are presented for comparison (Figs. 1, 2).
