Bidirectional Ultra-Wideband Antenna Using Rectangular Ring Fed by Stepped Monopole

Abstract: Abstract-This paper presents an ultra-wideband rectangular ring fed by stepped monopole antenna. The initial parameters of rectangular ring are first considered to obtain the bidirectional pattern with the desired resonant frequency. Subsequently, the parameters of stepped monopole for enhancing impedance bandwidth are investigated. To study the impedance and radiation behaviors, the simulations of the proposed antenna have been carried out. It is found that this antenna offers a bidirectional beam with the imp… Show more

“…If the number of steps at the corners increases infinitely, the steps become smaller and reach a point that the step path (R 1 ) acts as a line with infinite points. By calculating W 1 and L 1 using Equations (10) and (11), R 1 acts as hypotenuse in a right triangle with W 1 , L 1 sides, which can be calculated using Equation (14). Figure 9 shows the geometric details and photos of fabricated proposed broadband MRMPA.…”

“…MPAs comprise narrow BW that is approximately 1-5%, which is the most major limiting factor for its widespread applications. Most of the previous contributions in this research area were to increase the BW of MPAs [1,2], and therefore, several measures have been introduced to achieve this objective, including modified shape patches, which is a method of modifying the shape of patch [3][4][5][6][7][8], utilization of slotted ground structure [9][10][11][12][13], modification of rectangular and circular patches to rectangular [14] and circular rings [15,16]. Another method includes an impedance matching network method proposed to enhance the MPAs BW [17][18][19].…”

“…To date, few types of phase shifter have been reported by researchers. Since the allocation of UWB frequency range by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in February 2002 [5], more research have been conducted on the design of microwave devices including phase shifters, couplers [6][7][8], filters [9], power amplifiers [10][11] and also antenna [12][13] that capable to operate for UWB applications.…”

“…For some specific services where the mobile users move along the straight roads such as highways, railways and tunnels, bidirectional antennas are especially preferred to be used in order to maximize the link efficiency [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14].…”
