Bidirectional isotachophoresis on a planar chip with integrated conductivity detection

Abstract: The use of a miniaturised planar separation device with integrated conductivity detection for performing bidirectional isotachophoresis (ITP) is described. The chips were produced in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) using a milling procedure. To enable bidirectional ITP the devices were designed to inject samples into the centre of the section channel and incorporated two integrated on-column conductivity detectors, positioned at opposite ends of this channel. When used with a hydrodynamic sample transport sys… Show more

“…ITP [89][90][91][92] has also been used with conductivity detection as a separation technique either alone or in conjunction with CZE [86,88]. This technique has been used for a variety of applications including the isolation of the drug valproic acid from human serum [87].…”

“…The group used 10 mM HCl buffered to a pH of 3.6 with glycylglycine as the anolyte and 12.5 mM Cs 2 CO 3 as the catholyte. This enabled them to separate a mixture containing 10 mM of each of the above-mentioned salts [42].…”

“…ITP cannot separate a sample containing both anions and cations in a single run. Prest et al [42] and Hirokawa et al [43] have conducted work on bi-directional ITP. Here, the researchers moved the ions in two directions along the channel using different methods; Prest's group injected the mixture into the middle of a channel along which an electric field was applied.…”
