PurposeThis paper aims to explore the literature on vertical farming to define key elements to outline a business model for entrepreneurs. The research aims to stimulate entrepreneurship for vertical farming in a smart cities' context, recognising urban agriculture as technology to satisfy increasing food needs.Design/methodology/approachThe research conducts a structured literature review on 186 articles on vertical farming extracted from the Scopus. Moreover, the bibliometric analysis revealed the descriptive statistics on this field and the main themes through the authors' keywords.FindingsDifferent perspectives showed the multidisciplinary nature of the topic and how the intersection of different skills is necessary to understand the subject entirely. The keywords analysis allowed for identifying the topics covered by the authors and the business model's elements.Research limitations/implicationsThe research explores a topic in the embryonic stage to define key strands of literature. It provides business model insights extending George and Bock's (2011) research to stimulate entrepreneurship in vertical farming. Limitations arise from the sources used to develop our analysis and how the topic appears as a frontier innovation.Originality/valueOriginality is the integration of literature strands related to vertical farming, highlighting its multidisciplinary nature to provide a holistic understanding of the themes. In smart cities' context, innovations allow traditional business models to be interpreted in a novel perspective and revealed the elements for transforming vertical farming from innovative technology to an effective source of food sustenance. Finally, the paper suggests a new methodology application for the analysis of word clusters by integrating correspondence analysis and multidimensional scaling analysis.

The issue of effectiveness in healthcare plays a role in international debates. The search for adequate tools allowing management to evaluate the correct allocation of resources becomes increasingly necessary. Cost-effectiveness analysis responds to this need, but the variety of tools and solutions proposed makes their application and replicability complex. The aim of this study was to create a starting approach model useful to researchers and professionals to cost-effectiveness problem solving. The study integrates two approaches by unifying the PRISMA-Compliant Systematic Literature Review and Bibliometric Analysis. The results obtained from the analysis are manifold. Scientific production related to cost-effectiveness in healthcare has increased in the last ten years and is mainly concentrated in three sources. Researchers insert multiple keywords into the articles, but the main ones are cost effectiveness analysis, human, health care cost. The topics covered can be divided into two clusters, which can be further divided into several subgroups. PRISMA analysis reinforces and confirms what has been identified through bibliometric analysis: in cost-effectiveness analysis different methodological bases are applicable to specific individual topics; in particular, the most used approaches to evaluate cost-effectiveness are DES (discrete event simulation) and Mathematical-statistical analysis methodologies, whose applications need the highlighted data. The study also underlines the literature absence of some specific topics such as spillover from primary and secondary health prevention activities, organization of services, rehabilitation activities, centralization of services related to contracts and PPPs, evaluation of infra-hospital care pathways.

Background Surgical tourism is an emerging economic sector, with the most growth potential demonstrated in China's health industry before the COVID-19 pandemic. Surgical tourism accounts for a large part of medical tourism services in China, with high requirements in terms of quality and safety. By contrast, China suffers from insufficient measurement tools and theoretical research. The aim of this study was to develop a set of reliable and feasible indicators by augmenting the Donabedian model to evaluate the quality of surgical tourism services. Methods A literature review and focus group interview were used to generate indicators for the quality of surgical tourism services. The basic framework of the evaluation system was based on the structure–process–outcome Donabedian model. The screening and weight setting were conducted through an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and a two-round Delphi consultation with 13 panelists. The validity and reliability of experts were tested by the experts' positive coefficient, authority coefficient, and coordination coefficient. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed by a pre-test distributed within an International Medical Department of a public hospital in China. Results Based on the Donabedian quality theory, a novel evaluation system of surgical tourism service institutions was constructed with three dimensions, nine first-level items and 39 second-level items. The three dimensions consisted of the structure (0.315), process (0.287), and outcome (0.398), with several indicators for each dimension and each indicator was given a weight. Of the two rounds of Delphi consultation, the response rates were 86.67% and 100%. The coordination coefficient of expert opinions in the two rounds of consultation were 0.49 and 0.65 (p < 0.05). For the empirical study, the self-evaluation score of a public hospital was 86, which could rate as a two-star institution. Conclusions Our evaluation system identified three suitable quality dimensions of surgical tourism services to improve the safety and quality of practical healthcare. It reflects the access criterion of surgical tourism institutions, provides references for the best choice of surgical services for tourists, and can be applied by healthcare managers and policy makers to allocate resources more efficiently and promote more surgical tourism services with international standards.
