Bibliometric Review of State-of-the-art Research on Microbial Oils’ Use for Biobased Epoxy

Abstract: Epoxy resins are widely used polymers from which a variety of products are derived and applied in many industries. Most epoxy resins are still obtained from mainly fossil feedstocks, such as epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A, which are also highly toxic. Additionally, fossil derived epoxy resin products are forming non-biodegradable waste at their end of life. Recently the number of studies aiming to find solutions and other raw materials for the replacement of fossil derived epoxy resins has increased, showing … Show more

“…Epoxidized vegetable oils are entering the market as an alternative to conventional fossilbased polymers, used for production of bio-based epoxides and bio-based polymers such as polyurethanes [242]- [244]. However, some of these materials have been reported to have unsatisfactory material properties [244]- [247].…”

However, some of these materials have been reported to have unsatisfactory material properties [244]- [247]. La Scala and Wool [247] proposed that triglycerides with a higher number of unsaturation sites could be used to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of bio-based polymers.…”

“…Bibliometrics is able to represent the complex knowledge system in the research field through data analysis, information processing, and graphical representation. Among the most widely used and important methods are cluster analysis, cocitation analysis, co-occurrence analysis, etc. , Bibliometric methods can be used to present and summarize the academic achievements and development of each research field. For example, Yang et al used the knowledge mapping method to analyze the methodology of emerging technologies in interdisciplinary fields.…”
