Bibliometric Literature Analysis of a Multi-Dimensional Sustainable Development Issue: Energy Poverty

Abstract: Energy plays a critical role in building a sustainable future—economically, socially, and environmentally. Energy poverty holds a similarly prominent position and covers certain economic, social and environmental issues that are underlined by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Due to its multidimensional role in plans for achieving sustainable development, there is a growing body of literature focusing on various aspects of energy poverty. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of this lit… Show more

“…We gathered the relevant evidence from three types of sources: academic articles, doctoral theses and grey sources as defined by (Adams, et al, 2017; Green et al, 2006; Hiebl, 2021; Rojon et al, 2021). These have been purposively selected based on the results of two bibliometric analyses (Ulucak et al, 2021; Xiao et al, 2021) to which we added relevant sources based on our personal knowledge of the field after more than 5 years of involvement in a large scientific and expertise network in the field of energy poverty. To enable satisfactory insight and relevance of results, we applied a number of selection criteria, such as diversity of qualitative methods employed, of targeted population and of contexts.…”

“…It can retrieve more comprehensive literature compared with the others. A number of scholars use the WOS database as the data source for literature analysis [74,75]. Secondly, WOS provides a guarantee for the reliability of raw data in the visual analysis given its long time span and the quantity and quality of entries.…”

“…More importantly, consumption-based carbon dioxide emissions make more sense in terms of the consumption side of an economy and are more related to consumers rather than the production sector. Income inequality is also an essential driver of energy poverty, a multi-dimensional sustainability issue that triggers improper material use with more pollution for heating and other basic needs (Ulucak et al, 2021). Previously, attention has been paid to the direct emission of CO 2 emitted by each country.…”
