BackgroundThe incidence and mortality rates of stroke are escalating due to the growing aging population, which presents a significant hazard to human health. In the realm of stroke, brain-computer interface (BCI) technology has gained considerable attention as a means to enhance treatment efficacy and improve quality of life. Consequently, a bibliometric visualization analysis was performed to investigate the research hotspots and trends of BCI technology in stroke, with the objective of furnishing reference and guidance for future research.MethodsThis study utilized the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database as the data source, selecting relevant literature published between 2013 and 2022 as research sample. Through the application of VOSviewer 1.6.19 and CiteSpace 6.2.R2 visualization analysis software, as well as the bibliometric online analysis platform, the scientific knowledge maps were constructed and subjected to visualization display, and statistical analysis.ResultsThis study encompasses a total of 693 relevant literature, which were published by 2,556 scholars from 975 institutions across 53 countries/regions and have been collected by 185 journals. In the past decade, BCI technology in stroke research has exhibited an upward trend in both annual publications and citations. China and the United States are high productivity countries, while the University of Tubingen stands out as the most contributing institution. Birbaumer N and Pfurtscheller G are the authors with the highest publication and citation frequency in this field, respectively. Frontiers in Neuroscience has published the most literature, while Journal of Neural Engineering has the highest citation frequency. The research hotspots in this field cover keywords such as stroke, BCI, rehabilitation, motor imagery (MI), motor recovery, electroencephalogram (EEG), neurorehabilitation, neural plasticity, task analysis, functional electrical stimulation (FES), motor impairment, feature extraction, and induced movement therapy, which to a certain extent reflect the development trend and frontier research direction of this field.ConclusionThis study comprehensively and visually presents the extensive and in-depth literature resources of BCI technology in stroke research in the form of knowledge maps, which facilitates scholars to gain a more convenient understanding of the development and prospects in this field, thereby promoting further research work.

Background: As information on the meniscus accumulates in PubMed, it is possible to evaluate the trends in research on the topic over time. Purpose: To evaluate the major trends in meniscus-related publications in PubMed from the earliest publication to the present day. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: PubMed was searched on January 3, 2023, using the search strategy “menisc *”[All Fields] AND (“knee”[MeSH Terms] OR “knee”[All Fields] OR “knee joint”[MeSH Terms] OR (“knee”[All Fields] AND “joint”[All Fields]) OR “knee joint”[All Fields]) AND 1900/01/01:2022/12/31[Date - Publication]. This retrieved 15,569 human and animal studies. We determined the top 10 meniscus-related publications in terms of overall citations and citations per year, as well as the top 10 authors, journals, countries, and institutions of cited publications on the meniscus. In addition, we performed word-cloud analyses based on meniscus-related terms from different periods (before 1981, before 2000, after 2005, and in the past 5 years [2018-2022]), including the year of first appearance and the number of publications featured. Results: Since the first recorded publication on the meniscus in 1928, there was a steady growth in the number of articles until 2005, when there was an upsurge in publications from 254 in 2005 to 955 in 2022. Noyes was the author with the most citations (n = 3314), and a 2006 study by Caplan and Dennis had the most citations per year (n = 125). Arthroscopy published the most articles on the meniscus with 1118, whereas the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry had the most citations per article with 125.69. The most published countries and institutes were the United States and the Hospital for Special Surgery, respectively. Word-cloud analysis of article titles showed that “meniscectomy” had become less prominent, and “root,”“ramp,”“transplantation,” and “slope” had become more prominent. Conclusion: There has been an upsurge in publications on the meniscus since 2005, with word-cloud analysis indicating shifting interests in meniscus-related research.

Global research states and trends of micro RNA in irritable bowel syndrome: a bibliometric analysis

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common chronic gastrointestinal disorder, but its diagnosis and treatment remain obscure. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), as potential biomarkers, have attracted increasing attention in digestive diseases. Here, we present a comprehensive research status, development trends, and valuable insights in this subject area. The literature search was performed using Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewer 1.6.20, Citespace 6.2.R4, and Microsoft Excel 2021 were used for bibliometric analysis. A total of 124 articles were included in the analysis. Overall, publication patterns fluctuated. Globally, People’s Republic of China, the USA, and Germany were the top three contributors of publications. Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, University of California, Mayo Clinic, and University of California, Los Angeles contributed the highest number of publications. The pathways and specific mechanisms by which ncRNAs regulate transcription and translation and thus regulate the pathophysiological processes of IBS are the main research hotspots in this field. We found that microRNA (miRNAs) are intricately involved in the regulation of key pathologies such as viscera sensitivity, intestinal permeability, intestinal mucosal barrier, immunoinflammatory response, and brain-gut axis in the IBS, and these topics have garnered significant attention in research community. Notably, microecological disorders are also associated with IBS pathogenesis, and ncRNA may play an important role in the interactions between host and intestinal flora. This is the first bibliometric study to comprehensively summarize the research hotspots and trends related to IBS and ncRNAs (especially miRNAs). Our findings will help understand the role of ncRNAs in IBS and provide guidance to future studies.
