“…The implications for the current research study on the level of biblical literacy of adult SBC Sunday school participants are numerous. A review of the literature (Armstrong, 1996;Barna & Hatch, 2001;Barna Research Online, 1990, 2000, 2003, 2011Bible Literacy Project, 2005;Burge, 1999;Clark, 1991;Edge, 1995;Gallup, 1990;Gallup & Castelli, 1989;Gorski, 2008;Greeley & Hout, 2006;Ham & Beemer, 2009;Kroll, 2000Kroll, , 2007Lindbeck, 1989;Long, 1994;Nash, 1988Nash, , 1990Nash, , 1992Nelson, 2004;Pew Forum, 2008;Prothero, 2008;Reese, 2010;Smith & Denton, 2005;Vlach, n.d.;Watanabe, 1999;Wells, 1993) revealed a substantive gap in terms of solid empirical re-search into the phenomenon of Bible literacy among Southern Baptists. While several studies have emerged in the last decade that attempted to provide statistical backing that churches, in general, are "dropping the baton" in regard to transmission of Bible knowledge to their parishioners, nothing has been done to address the specific population of adult SBC Sunday school participants.…”
