Bi-sulphotellurides associated with Pb – Bi – (Sb ± Ag, Cu, Fe) sulphosalts: an example from the Stan Terg deposit in Kosovo

Abstract: New mineralogical and mineral-chemical data from the Stan Terg deposit, Kosovo, revealed the presence of abundant Bi-sulphotellurides associated with Bi-and Sb-sulphosalts and galena in pyrite-pyrrhotite-rich skarn-free ore bodies (ores without skarn minerals). The Bi-bearing association comprises Bi-sulphotellurides (joséite-A, joséite-B, unnamed phase A with a chemical formula close to (Bi,Pb) 2 (TeS) 2 , unnamed phase B with a chemical composition close to (Bi,Pb) 2.5 Te 1.5 S 1.5 ), ikunolite, cosalite, Sb… Show more

“…EPMA (4 analyses) yielded following average chemical formula (Pb 1.91 Cu 0.08 Ag 0.05 ) Σ=2.04 Bi 1.94 S 5.02 . Similar Ag and Cu contents to those from the ROF have been reported by several authors (TERZIĆ et al, 1974(TERZIĆ et al, , 1975RADOSAVLJEVIĆ-MIHAJLOVIĆ et al, 2007;VOUDOURIS et al, 2013;KOŁODZIEJCZYK et al, 2017). 2, Ag-bearing aschamalmite (3), vikingite (4-5), schirmerite (6) and gustavite (7) from different ore zones of the ROF (in wt%).…”

“…Besides the ROF, Bi-sulfosalt mineral parageneses have been identified in the Boranja ore field, Serbia (DANGIĆ et al, 1984, RADOSAVLJEVIĆ-MIHAJLOVIĆ et al, 2007, in the Golija ore field, Serbia (STAJEVIĆ & ZARIĆ, 1984) and in the Trepča, Stari Trg, Kosovo, Serbia (KOŁODZIEJCZYK et al, 2015, 2017. According to the mineral compositions, they are close to the Stanos shear-zone related deposit, Chalkidiki, northern Greece (VOUDOURIS et al, 2013).…”

“…Most of them are contained in skarns in trace amounts ( Figure 15) and, as a result, their paragenetic ratios cannot be determined at this stage of research and this is to be done in the framework of future research. Some conclusions in this aspect can be drawn when comparing the rare metal mineralization in PMD skarns and other regions [54][55][56][57][58].…”

“…The low contents of Au, Ag, Ag in Bi-sulfosalts, together with the lack of Au-Ag-bearing phases in the ore deposit, indicate either ore deposition from fluid(s) depleted in precious metals, or physico-chemical conditions of ore formation preventing Au and Ag precipitation at the deposit site. The temperature of the initial mineralization may have exceeded 400ºC.Non-stoichiometric phases among the Bi-sulfosalts and sulfotellurides studied at Stan Terg reflect modulated growth processes in a metasomatic environment(Kolodziejczyk et al, 2017). Trepca has >150 Mt of probable / indicated reserves of ores containing by average 6% Pb and 4% Zn(Tsirambides and Filippidis, 2016).…”
