In structural engineering and bridge construction, probabilistic calculations are only performed in a few exceptional cases. The ability to directly use information from the existing structure is an important advantage of probabilistic methods. Geometric data or the position and quantity of the installed reinforcing steel and tendons can be measured. Results from monitoring of the traffic can be used to generate structure-specific load models. Many clients are still very sceptical about the results of probabilistic calculations, even though there are several examples of successful application. The use of probabilistic verification formats is explicitly permitted by the German guideline for the assessment of existing bridges (German: Nachrechnungsrichtlinie). Since a high degree of special knowledge is required for the application of probabilistic calculations, it is difficult to establish the potential of this verification method in practice. It is necessary to enable the practical engineer to utilize the advantages of probabilistic calculations and to include the actual structural conditions into the calculation model, but without the need for all the special knowledge. Structure-specific partial safety factors include measured data and can be used for the well-known and in the codes established semi-probabilistic design concept. The authors present examples for the successful application of probabilistic methods and of data measurement during the reassessment of two existing bridges in Germany. The capabilities of full-probabilistic calculations for the reassessment of existing structures are described and concepts for the calculation of structure-specific partial safety factors are shown.

Digitisation in the construction industry continues to advance and, together with the increasing dissemination and further development of hardware and software, is steadily opening up further opportunities for innovative ways of working. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is currently becoming the standard for new construction but has not yet been optimised for use in existing buildings. Therefore, the Institute of Building Materials Research (ibac) is researching new methods and possibilities for BIM-based building preservation. In this paper, the automated creation and analysis of point clouds as well as the implementation of further information from in situ diagnosis and monitoring systems in BIM-Models are presented. On a practical example, the different steps of a subsequent digitisation of an existing building are demonstrated considering new possibilities as autonomous robots and the intelligent utilisation of sensors and diagnostics tools. The goal is a decision support tool, which is independent from proprietary software, adaptive to different types of buildings and open for various interfaces. Current results show that quantifying point clouds and making BIM-models usable beyond the planning and execution phase for new buildings are essential steps for the digitisation of building maintenance. The proposed digital workflow holds great potential for effective building diagnoses and efficient service life management.

Zerstörungsfreie Prüfverfahren liefern wichtige Informationen zur Beurteilung von Bauwerken. Mit ihnen können Materialeigenschaften bestimmt oder die innere Struktur von Bauteilen beschrieben werden. Für letzteres werden in der Regel Volumenverfahren angewandt. Einen besonderen Stellenwert haben in der Praxis die Radar‐ und die Ultraschall‐Echoverfahren. Ihre Anwendung erfordert lediglich eine einseitige Zugänglichkeit zum Bauteil. Zudem lassen sich zahlreiche unterschiedliche Prüfaufgaben lösen. Zum Stand der Technik gehören beispielsweise die Ortung von Bewehrung und Spannkanälen, die Bestimmung der Dicke von Bauteilen oder die Fehlerlokalisierung. In diesem Beitrag wird gezeigt, wie mithilfe von Ultraschall‐Echomessungen gesammelte Messwerte in ein quantitatives Messergebnis überführt werden können, das wiederum in ingenieurtechnische Berechnungen einfließen kann. Einleitend werden die Prüfmethode und die Messtechnik erläutert. Anschließend wird das Vorgehen von der Auswertung der Messergebnisse bis zur Bestimmung der bautechnischen Kenngröße – Bauteildicke – gezeigt. Abschließend wird die Methodik an einem Referenzprüfkörper aus Polyamid demonstriert und den Ergebnissen von Messungen an Beton gegenübergestellt.
