Between Roman Culture and Local Tradition

Abstract: vi the middle and end of the 1st century show that the official form of the name at that time was Pontus and Bithynia, despite the larger part of the province belonging to Bithynia. In several inscriptions, as well as from the historical records of Tacitus and Cassius Dio, a colloquial reference only to Bithynia appeared.
