Remark on China as method

“…However, it is vital to emphasize that this does not imply that Chinese scholars solely narrate their own scholarship or that the same applies to scholars from Asia. Embracing the perspective of “China as Method” must be approached with caution as it may risk categorizing every Chinese phenomenon studied as mere “Chinese exceptionalism,” a concern highlighted in my previous work in Popular Music (Fung, 2019).
