Diet, especially seafood, is the main source of arsenic exposure for humans. The total arsenic content of a diet offers inadequate information for assessment of the toxicological consequences of arsenic intake, which has impeded progress in the establishment of regulatory limits for arsenic in food. Toxicity assessments are mainly based on inorganic arsenic, a well-characterized carcinogen, and arsenobetaine, the main organoarsenical in seafood. Scarcity of toxicity data for organoarsenicals, and the predominance of arsenobetaine as an organic arsenic species in seafood, has led to the assumption of their nontoxicity. Recent toxicokinetic studies show that some organoarsenicals are bioaccessible and cytotoxic with demonstrated toxicities like that of pernicious trivalent inorganic arsenic, underpinning the need for speciation analysis. The need to investigate and compare the bioavailability, metabolic transformation, and elimination from the body of organoarsenicals to the well-established physiological consequences of inorganic arsenic and arsenobetaine exposure is apparent. This review provides an overview of the occurrence and assessment of human exposure to arsenic toxicity associated with the consumption of seafood.

Improved Transport Equations Including Correlations for Electron–Phonon Systems: Comparison with Exact Solutions in One Dimension

We study transport equations for quantum many-particle systems in terms of correlations by applying the general formalism developed in an earlier paper to exactly soluble electronphonon models. The one-dimensional models considered are the polaron model with a linear energy dispersion for the electrons and a finite number of electrons and the same model including a Fermi sea (Tomonaga-Luttinger model). The inclusion of two-particle correlations shows a significant and systematic improvement in comparison with the usual non-Markovian equations in Born approximation. For example, the improved equations take into account the renormalization of the propagation by the self-energies to second order in the coupling.1997 Academic Press

Tscharnuter (1975) and Fricke et al (1976) did not find rings, but their originally used difference scheme turned out to be slightly unstable. However, apparently minor modifications of the scheme in order to increase stability at the cost of numerical accuracy, leaving the physics unchanged, did produce rings (Tscharnuter, 1978;Bodenheimer and Tscharnuter, 1979).…”

This review is concerned with recent theoretical investigations and numerical models of star formation with various symmetries. Observations strongly support the fact that stars condense out of cool (~lO K) and dense (i03-104 atoms/cm~) interstellar clouds due to gravitational instability and collapse. Bright, young stellar objects (Oand B-stars) are always found in the vicinity of cloud complexes.
