Bertahan dan Menang: Strategi dan Modal Politik Sri Rahmi dalam Pemilihan Legislatif 2004-2019 di Sulawesi Selatan

Abstract

This article examines the strategies and political capital of actors who have succeeded in maintaining their power. The study of the survival of power in local politics in Indonesia is always identified with dynastic politics. However, in this article, we find that the survival of power does not always stem from dynastic power. The case study of Sri Rahmi is an interesting phenomenon and becomes a different dynamic from the study's mainstream on the survival of the local power so far. This article aims to describe how Sri Rahmi maintained his power so that he was elected as a member of the legislature for four consecutive terms. We use a descriptive analysis method that describes and analyzes various conditions and situations from various data collected from interviews and observations that occur in the field. This study found that several factors that influence the political strategy of Sri Rahmi's politics stem from the strength of personality, social networks, and political parties. This article contributes to understanding why and how local political actors can continue to survive and win in local political contestations in contemporary Indonesia. Through the analysis of strategy and political capital, this article provides different insights about the persistence of the power of local political actors, which the perspective of dynastic politics has dominated.
