“…Many flavonoids, such as kaempferol and apigenin, have been reported to regulate transmitter turnover by acting as inhibitors of monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A), a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of monoamines, including 5-HT and DA, in the brain. 31,32) Hence genistein might regulate MAO-A activity. 33) It is necessary to determine whether genistein acts as an MAO-A inhibitor in future study.…”

“…The antagonistic effect of AMFJ on reserpine-induced hypokinesia might be explained with a possible inhibitory effect of AMFJ polyphenols on the activity of MAO. This hypothesis is supported by data from experiments in vitro which have shown that the main anthocyanins in AMFJ (cyanidin and cyanidin-glycoside) inhibit MAO-A and MAO-B (8). There are similar data for green tea polyphenols as inhibitors of MAO enzyme activity leading to an increase of monoamines in rat C6 astrocyte cells (16).…”

“…AMFJ is extremely rich in polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants (8)(9)(10) and this may explain the reduced oxidative stress. In this experiment, AMFJ also partly antagonized the reserpine-induced hypokinesia.…”

“…Moreover, UHPLC/HR-TOF-MS analyses were performed comparing the mass spectra and the retention times with those displayed by 1 and 2 (Table 1). In addition, high-resolution MS spectra of the peaks in 1.15 (SAE) and 1.16 min (LAE) provided pseudomolecular ions at m/z 733.2567 (SAE) and 733.2577 (LAE), calculated for C 38 (3 and 4).…”

“…These data are in agreement with the presence of compounds possessing βC and THβC nuclei in P. suterella and P. laciniata. 38,39 . Moreover, both alkaloids possess voluminous groups near their pyridine (in lyaloside) and piperidine (in strictosamide) nitrogens, which could hinder the free electrons pair.…”
