Berberin sustained-release nanoparticles were enriched in infarcted rat myocardium and resolved inflammation

Abstract: Inflammatory regulation induced by macrophage polarization is essential for cardiac repair after myocardial infarction (MI). Berberin (BBR) is an isoquinoline tetrasystemic alkaloid extracted from plants. This study analyzes the most likely mechanism of BBR in MI treatment determined via network pharmacology, showing that BBR acts mainly through inflammatory responses. Because platelets (PLTs) can be enriched in the infarcted myocardium, PLT membrane-coated polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (BBR… Show more

“…It boasts a millennia-old history of utilization in traditional Chinese medicine ( 12 , 20 , 21 ). In the realm of traditional Chinese medicine, the treatment mechanisms of natural compounds are often intricate, involving complex networks when applied to patients ( 22 , 23 ). Confirming the primary mechanism by which Chrysin addresses breast cancer through quantitative animal experiments can be a formidable challenge.…”

“…Weitong Lihua Laboratory Animal Center (Beijing, China) provided 200 g ± 10 g male rats for this study. The preparation of MI model was prepared as described previously [ 22 ]. Briefly, after the rat was anesthetized with 6 mg/kg sodium pentobarbital, the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) was ligated.…”

“…Furthermore, the NP group exhibits an enhanced cardiac function, reduced collagen deposition, as well as improved angiogenesis effect, indicating a potential solution for MI treatment. 98 Notoginsenoside R1 was also used to target inflammatory cells to improve heart repair after MI. 99 , 100 For instance, Qiu and coworkers synthesized arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) conjugated lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (RGD-S/P-LPNs) loaded with salvianolic acid B (Sal B) and panax notoginsenoside (PNS).…”
