Ph3PbOH (Ph = C6H5), (Ph2Pb)2O or Me2Pb(OH)2 (Me = CH3) and 2-mercaptoethanol (1), 3-mercaptopropandiol-1,2 (2) or 4-mercaptophenol (3) react in CHCl3 or ether to give Ph3PbSR′OH [R′ = CH2CH2 (4), CH2CHOHCH2 (5), C6H4], Ph2Pb(SR′OH)2 [R′ = CH2CH2 (7), CH2CHOHCH2(8),C6H4]and Me2Pb(SC6H4OH)2. According to spectroscopic data the ligands are bonded to tetracoordinated Pb through S, the molecules being H-bonded in the solid state. 7 redistributes above - 20 °C to give 4, (SR′OH)2 and Pb(SCH2CH2OH)2, 8 redistributes to give 5, 2, (SR′OH)2, and Pb(SCH2CHOHCH2O)
