Benzoyltyramine Alkaloids Atalantums A–G from the Peels of Atalantia monophylla and Their Cytotoxicity against Cholangiocarcinoma Cell Lines

Abstract: Seven new benzoyltyramines, atalantums A-G (1-7), and five known compounds were isolated from the peels of Atalantia monophylla. All compounds were examined for cytotoxicity against the cholangiocarcinoma cell lines KKU-M214, KKU-M213, and KKU-M156. Compound 5 exhibited the strongest cytotoxicity against KKU-M156 cells, with an IC value of 1.97 ± 0.73 μM, an approximately 4.7-fold higher activity than that of the ellipticine standard. Compound 1 displayed strong cytotoxicity against KKU-M214 cells, with an IC … Show more

“…This medicinal plant has been used in folklore medicine for various purposes. , The leaves of this plant are used to treat itching and other skin ailments . In turn, the oil from its fruits has been used for paralytic limbs and chronic rheumatism, while the roots have been used as an antispasmodic. In previous work, seven new benzoyltyramine alkaloids (atalantums A–G) and five known derivatives were found in the peel of this plant . As a continuation of studies on this plant, several compounds were isolated and identified, and their cytotoxic effects were tested against cholangiocarcinoma and hepatoma cell lines.…”

“…In previous pharmacological studies, the extract or pure compounds isolated from Atalantia plants were proven to have antiallergic, antibacterial, antifeedant, cytotoxic, expectorant, and antimalarial activities. In addition, early phytochemical research revealed that acridone alkaloids, coumarins, limonoids, sesquiterpenoids, tyramines, and oximes were the major constituents of Atalantia plants. In this bioactivity study, the MeOH extract of the twigs of A.…”
