Abstract

Benzathine benzylpenicillin Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction: case reportA 20-year-old woman developed Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction during treatment with benzathine benzylpenicillin for secondary syphilis associated with Sweet syndrome.The woman presented with progressive cutaneous lesions related to general systemic symptoms, including fever and headache. Subsequent analyses led to the diagnosis of secondary syphilis associated with the Sweet syndrome. Hence, she started receiving benzathine benzylpenicillin [benzathine penicillin G; route not stated] 2.4 MUI two twice a week, alongside prednisolone. However, after receiving the first dose of benzathine benzylpenicillin, she developed tachycardia, fever and elevated inflammatory parameters, which was diagnosed as Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction secondary to benzathine benzylpenicillin [outcome not stated].
