Abstract

Benzaldehyde is a compound of great importance in industry such as chemical, pharmaceutical and food industry, as a synthetic precursor or reagent. Examples of applications of benzaldehyde include food and perfume flavoring, cosmetic dyes, fuel and fuel additive, plasticizers and water treatment. This article presents the main industrial synthesis process of benzaldehyde and some reactions involving this substance, in addition to its applications and toxicity. O benzaldeído é um composto de grande aplicação em diferentes setores da indústria química, farmacêutica e de alimentos, como precursor sintético ou reagente. Como exemplos de aplicações do benzaldeído, têm-se flavorizante de alimentos, aromatizante de perfumes e corantes de cosméticos, combustível e aditivo de combustível, plastificantes e tratamento de água. Este artigo apresenta o principal processo de síntese industrial do benzaldeído e algumas reações envolvendo essa substância, além das suas aplicações e toxicidade.
