“…It has previously been found that rice cultivation techniques, such as pesticide and/or herbicide use and crop cultivation around paddies, could affect birds using rice fields 22 , 27 , 41 , 45 , 48 , 49 . The results of this study also support these findings, as it was found that waterbirds were more abundant in eco-friendly fields due to the larger amount of potential food 21 , 30 , 33 .…”

“…The effectiveness of EFF for biodiversity conservation has been studied primarily in dry croplands and grasslands in Europe (Batáry et al, 2011; Tuck et al, 2014). Nevertheless, previous research in rice fields has suggested that various options of EFF, such as organic farming and winter flooding, can support higher species richness or abundance of plants, invertebrates, frogs and waterbirds than conventional farming in North America, Europe and Asia (Elphick, 2000; Fraixedas et al, 2020; Katayama et al, 2019). The increased abundance of beneficial predators, such as spiders, can enhance biological control services (Baba et al, 2018; Settele et al, 2018).…”
