Benefit-oriented data retrieval in data broadcast environments

Abstract: Broadcast disk technology has become a popular method for data dissemination in wireless information systems. However, factors such as intentional periodic disconnection by the mobile hosts (MH) result in further needs for managing access modes so as to let the mobile hosts procure highest benefit through the disconnections. We address this issue in this paper and propose solutions for the MH to retrieve the broadcast data. Our performance results show that the proposed algorithms indeed achieve almost the opt… Show more

“…So the computation for searching for the optimal pair is very complicated and costly. The Heuristic Algorithms proposed by Lin et al [7] can solve this problem by largely reducing the cost of calculation and obtain a near optimal result. However, in order to simplify the task for an easier research, the access mode of such algorithms is fixed.…”

“…Of course this approach comes with an enormous cost of computation. To reduce such cost of computation, Heuristic Algorithms proposed in our previous work [7] performs very well. Heuristic Algorithms not only reduce the cost of computation, but also achieve near-optimal result.…”

“…In this paper, our first contribution is to provide a data retrieval method for broadcast-based T-learning environment by using our recently designed technique, benefit-oriented data broadcasting technique [6]. In such environments, learners can obtain the watching mode with greatest benefit from a broadcast index, even when the learner is unaware of the broadcast program structure.…”
