Benchmarking the performance of lithiated metal oxide interlayers at the LiCoO2|LLZO interface

Abstract: Lithiated Nb, Al, or Ti metal oxide interlayers improve the LiCoO2/LLZO interface, whereby the Li–Nb–O interlayer exhibits the highest performance.

“…The spectrum of the as-loaded LLZTO (Figure dinset) is dominated by a sharp peak at B, corresponding to transitions from the O 1s to carbonyl (CO) π* orbital of Li 2 CO 3 . Peaks A and C primarily correspond to transitions to O 2p–Me 4d/5d hybridized states of LLZTO with e g and t 2 g symmetry, respectively. , At 600 °C, peaks A and C are dominant, consistent with much of the Li 2 CO 3 having been removed. The small feature close to peak B occurs at a slightly lower energy than seen for Li 2 CO 3 , consistent with the presence of LiOH .…”
