Show more

“…It is seen that A2 in acetone at 25.0 0C also exhibits an upswing with decreasing Aiw for small Mw. This result is consistent with the literature data obtained by Springer et al 26 from vapor pressure osmometry for methyl methacrylate oligomers in the same solvent, although their data exhibit a sharp decrease with decreasing Mw for Mw < 300. However, its direct comparison with our data may be inappropriate since the terminal groups of their samples are unknown.…”

“…Appendix. Analysis of Literature Data for Oligomers Following the procedure described in the text, we have analyzed the literature data obtained by Springer et al 26 for A2 from vapor pressure osmometry for methyl methacrylate oligomers in acetone at 25.0 °C. (We note that the chemical structures of the end groups of their samples are unknown, as already mentioned.)…”

“…This can be done in such a way that in the coil limit the values of h(2) as a function of z with as given by eq 10 (with 2-z) are as close as possible to those of the Barrett function15 h(z) at any z, i.e. h(2) ^(1 + 14.3z + 57.3z2)"02 (17) The result thus obtained reads h(2) = (1 + 7.742 + 52.3227/10)"10/27 (18) We note that in the coil limit the difference between the values of calculated from eq 14 with eq 18 and with the Barrett equation for h does not exceed 3%.…”

“…According to the theory,7 A2 in general may be written in the form A2 = A2HW) + Af1 (14) where A2HW) is the part of A2 without the effect of chain ends, i.e., that part of A2 which vanishes at 0, and A® represents the contribution of the effect of chain ends to A2. The first term A^0 may be written as A2hw> = (NAcJ/2L2B/2M2)h (15) where NA is Avogadro's number, and c» and B are given by 4 + (X_Ir0)2 C" 4 + (X-V + (X"V and B = 0/a2c"3/2 (17) The h function is given by h(lt) = (1 + 7.742 + 52.3227/1V0/27 (18) with 2 = I/ass (19) In eq 19,2 is the intermolecular scaled excluded-volume parameter defined by16…”
