Show more

“…Although the first well characterized complex containing a trans-chelating diphosphine dates from 1961 [20], it was not until 1976 that Venanzi published what is considered the first example of a diphosphine designed to be a trans-ligand [5]. Fairly, it deserved years later the meaningful name of TRANSPHOS (1 in Scheme 1).…”

“…Complexation of transition metal centers by bidentate ligands in trans fashion has attracted much attention since the 1961 when Issleib and Hohlfeld synthesized the first trans-spanned square planar nickel complex using the flexible bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)pentane as a ligand [1]. Thereafter, a number of flexible and rigid chelates exhibiting analogous chelating preferences were prepared, characterized and studied [2].…”

“…With the longer-chain ligand, 1,8-bis(diphenylphosphin0)-3,6-dioxaoctane (POOP), a distorted square planar trans-chelate compound, NiI,(POOP), was characterized [ 171'). These flexible-chain diphosphines resemble the prototype ligand system (cyclohexyl),P(CH,),P(cyclohexyl), (n = 3-5) reported by Issleib and Hohyeld [18]. Of these, the ligand with n = 5 forms the trans-chelate NiCl,[(cyclohexyl),-P(CH,),P(cyclohexyl),1 [ 181.…”
